Jambiani is a quiet village on the southeast coast of Zanzibar with the longest beach on the island. In the end of May there were hardly any tourist so we had the beach to ourselves. Unfortunately there was also very little street food available, most of the hotels and restaurants were closed so we ate mostly at our resort. This is common in low season and cholera outbreak happened a month ago so we kind of expected it. Kind of 🙂 Nearby village Paje has a bit more to…

So while Mic is working and I have a sore throat, sardines in Moalboal will have to wait, I’ll post an underwater gallery from Balicasag snorkeling. There were a lot of small jellyfish which weren’t dangerous but still stung, ouch. We saw some nudiebranches and at the very end jumped into a school of jackfish, woopwoop! If you see them while diving, it’s even more cool because you’re in the middle of the jackfish ball! How cool is that?? Ps. I bought a deodorant in a baggie 🙂

Small island famous for its turtle sanctuary. And its true, snorkeling here means you will encounter at least 5 turtles. Big turtles with beautiful patterns, slowly swimming or feeding on the corals. The coral reef is actually nice but like in other places we’ve been on Philippines, there are no big schools of fish, only some. And couple snakes 🙂 Apo island has a resort (Apo Island resort) and some guesthouses/home-stays. You can get a cheaper room in a guesthouse (like Liberty lodge) if you’ll be diving (500P which…

We’re already on Bohol, munching Choco Mucho chocolate bars on the famous Chocolate hills. Take a look at our video with the turtles from Apo Island.

It’s been 365 days since we started from the main bus station in Ljubljana, Slovenia, almost missed our flight due to traffic jam in Italy, made a transit in Jeddah with all the Muslim men and their 5 covered wives, and started our journey in Sri Lanka. What can I say, it’s been one hell of a ride. New challenges every day, some really pleasant (which beach are we going today) to not so pleasant ones (who is going to kill that cockroach). We had a couple of…

Snorkeling with whale sharks has never been on our wish list but since we were going to Apo island via Oslob we decided to stop by and see what’s the hype. People have mixed opinions about this activity, from total obsession to disapproval. Fact is they used to kill them, but then one got the idea of feeding them so they will attract tourist. And they do! But they are also ruining the ecosystem. I think this is the lesser evil, better than killing them, right? It’s best…

El Nido is a beautiful place. Huge rock formations in the middle of the blue water, hidden lagoons, remote islands with white sand beaches and lots of palm trees. We had luck and was only 5 (instead of 18) on the boat so we could ask for the reverse tour and avoid all the masses of tourists (we did the tour A for 700P, including lunch, excluding environmental fee of 200P). Snorkeling is nice, the corals are alive and colorful but there’s not a lot of fish. Lagoons…

Green lush jungle, blue clear water and white sand. Small paradise beaches like the one from Cast Away (no Wilson, tough) :). The snorkeling is decent (if you’re not spoiled by Banda islands, like we are) and you see turtles feeding on the corals. There are several options for a day trip (700P) and you can even sleep on some of the islands. We really wanted to but in the end didn’t find enough people for the price to be friendly. Meanwhile, we’re still enjoying Port Barton with…

3,5 hours of driving in a van, last hour on the bad road with lots of mud and we arrived in this town that backpackers love so much. There’s no night clubs, no big bars, no shopping malls. It’s tiny! People are beyond friendly and so honest that you can’t get ripped off. You still find coconuts for 0,5$ and a meal with a drink and a banana for 1,2$. It almost feels like we’re on the Caribbean, with the palm trees and lights. People here love to…

As you might have noticed, we really love the island life. Great food, mellow vibe with Christmas lights, salty air and superb snorekling. We’ve chosen the top 3 snorkeling spots that you would enjoy for sure. Sharks guaranteed! 😀 1). Hatta island, Maluku islands Banda islands in general have beautiful coral reefs but the best of the best was the one on Hatta island. Turtles, sharks, huge fish, colorful corals, and even dolphins in the morning. The drop-off was literally just a few steps from the shore. If…
